Melia Hotels sent us the invitation to join their FAM Trip they were organizing to Tenerife, and I was the lucky one who attended.
I say the lucky one because it was an absolute honour to be part of the group of the events agents who went to find out what Tenerife can offer to our clients as a MICE destination.
We were 5 days on the Island, visited 4 different Melia properties with the opportunity to learn about their gastronomy, activities, culture and all that Tenerife has to offer.
Everything started with a very warm welcome at the airport from Maria Yacoub and Emily Davies from Melia Hotels, here we had the opportunity to meet each other at the British Airways Lounge (the trip had just started and we were already eating).
After a really good flight we arrived at the Hotel Palacio de Isora. The hotel certainly had the ‘wow factor’. We were received in a private check-in area with cocktails on offer and a violinist playing in the background. After a long and tiring day of travelling we really felt at home. Dinner was served on a private terrace, facing the stunning ocean views.
The next day after a buffet breakfast, served in the beautiful hotel gardens, Rita, Begoña and Valerie, The Hotel Palacio team, showed us around the meeting rooms, facilities, the 7 different restaurants, nightclub and the various swimming pools. I certainly was impressed and can say that this 5 star hotel really has everything on offer – perfect for incentives, meetings, congress and events.
The rest of the day brought cocktail lessons, a Spanish tapas lunch, a catamaran ride and dinner in a banana plantation. It was a truly unforgettable experience.
On day three we started our journey to our second destination; Hacienda del Conde. To get there we had to pass over the El Teide, the tallest mountain in Spain, pulling over to take in the views, learning how the island was formed from lava, stopping for a wine tasting at the winery ‘Bodega Monje’, and doing a site visit and lunch at the Sol Costa Atlantis, a 4* Melia Hotel in Puerto de la Cruz. We then went on to the Melia Hacienda del Conde a spectacular adults-only resort, surrounded by the Buenavista golf course with imposing views of the Atlantic Ocean.
The Hacienda gave us the experience of being in a building with beautiful and unique architecture, well prepared to host incentive groups as well as meetings in a quite area, very different from your average resort. We also had the opportunity to play golf which was an experience you could really enjoy at the same time as relaxing – being a professional certainly isn’t necessary.
The Sales Manager, Bruno Bedda, did everything to give us an unforgettable time; arranging a fabulous dinner, giving us a guided tour, and was with us every step of the way to answer every query we had.
The trip was getting closer to the end and we had one more chance to enjoy the experience that the Hotel Jardines del Teide had for us. Carlos Sosa guided us around and showed us what this huge hotel had to offer – 2 pools, restaurants, terraces to enjoy the view with a drink and large, modern rooms with plenty of natural light. Thanks to the drinks reception we enjoyed that evening by one of the swimming pools we saw what a great option this could be for our client’s events.
I would like to give a big thank you to Marcos, Managing Director of the local DMC Ten Travel, who organized the external activities and all the transportation.
It was great to meet fellow professionals within the Events Industry and share this experience with all of them. Thank you very much Melia Hotels, it was an absolute pleasure.
