FAM trip to The Celtic Manor Resort by Philippa Scott – January 2016

I recently attended an educational trip at the five-star Celtic Manor Resort in Newport. Located only 2 hours from London and set in more than 2,000 acres of panoramic parkland Celtic Manor has been the host venue for the NATO Summit 2014 and home of the 2010 Ryder Cup.  The resort is recognised as one of Europe’s finest destinations for meetings, conferences and events and named the UK’s Best Hotel at the Meetings & Incentive Travel Industry Awards 2011, 2012, 2013 & 2014.  Celtic Manor was also voted the UK’s Top Conference Hotel for five consecutive years in the Hot List for Conference & Incentive Travel magazine so when we received an invitation to go and check the venue out we jumped at the chance!

The five-star resort itself consists of two adjoining hotels, a country inn, luxury lodges, two spas, 6 restaurants, three championship golf courses, two golf and country clubs, high ropes courses, adventure golf, laser combat and archery to name a few. Clay pigeon shooting, fishing and mountain biking can also all be arranged and during our trip we had a go at chocolate making and a cocktail masterclass.  Both of which proved a lot of fun and bring a group together.

The Celtic Manor Resort also features a range of facilities for conferences and events. These include a comprehensive convention centre and exhibition hall that comes with 24 syndicate and meeting rooms.  The venue also has a further 31 function rooms with a capacity of up to 1200 delegates  and features an historic 19th century Manor House offering a choice of meeting and function rooms with a country house ambience.  In addition to this The Celtic Manor Golf Club, one of Europe’s largest and most luxurious golf clubhouses, offering conference and banqueting suites and function rooms for private dining.

Comprising of 10 luxury Hunter Lodges and three hotels – a 334-room luxury Resort Hotel, the Manor House with 67 rooms and the newly acquired hotel; currently trading as the Hilton Newport, offers a further 148 bedrooms making this the perfect venue for your larger residential events.

I stayed in one of the recently refurbished signature suites which come with an exclusive check-in service, evening turn-down service and complimentary wine and chocolates in the room. Signature suites also have unlimited access to the exclusive adults only Signature Lounge on the sixth floor where guests can benefit from complimentary tea, coffee, newspapers and magazines.
